About Us

Our company dates back to 1844. We have stayed in business by being as committed to our customers as we are to excellent quality.

We offer our clients friendly experienced sales and customer service people that guide and assist them in their printing decisions. Our plant personnel are skilled crafts people and are dedicated to providing top of the line quality to our clients. Our graphic artists can help you with design work and layouts.

Nelsons seeks to establish long term relationships with their clients and help them nurture and grow their businesses. Please contact us and let’s see how we can work together.

nelsonOur company has its roots in the 1800’s and has evolved through the years. In the early 1900’s, the company published a German language newspaper, “Deutsche Zeitung” in Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA for the many immigrants from Germany.
After World War I, Louis A.R. Nelson, (an Army veteran wounded five times in France) went to work at Southern Printing and eventually took over and the name was changed to Nelson’s Southern Printing and Publishing Company. His sons L.A Rohde Nelson, Jr. and Rhame Nelson joined him in the 1940’s.

Today, The Nelson Printing Corporation is owned and operated by Eric H. Nelson, Rohde’s son. Nelson’s basic philosophy is still to serve our customers the best we can while forming long term friendships.

Direct Marketers of Charleston began in 1994 when John and Diane Pauldine decided to earn extra money working in their home at night. Both held full-time jobs during the day, but jumped at the chance to assist a local business with its mailing campaign that targeted newcomers to the area.

“We picked up 3000 letters and envelopes that needed to be unfolded, refolded correctly, stapled, labeled, stamped and delivered to the post office. At that time, we didn’t even have a business name or license,” Diane said.

When the job was complete and delivered to the post office, “we had $12 left over,” John said, “but we were in business. From that point on, we started creating relationships one customer at a time and buying equipment to fulfill their printing and mailing needs.”

In 2014, Nelson Printing Corporation merged with Direct Marketers of Charleston, offering our customers an expanded range of services.
